Ingrid Zerpa Steps into Leadership as Sound Legal Aid’s Incoming Board President

Sound Legal Aid, a cornerstone for underserved communities across Thurston, Mason, Grays Harbor, Lewis, and Pacific Counties, welcomes Ingrid Zerpa as its incoming Board President. With a deep commitment to justice, Ingrid brings a personal connection, an inspiring vision, and years of impactful service to this role.

Ingrid’s journey with Sound Legal Aid began when she was a new attorney, recently relocated to the area and eager to grow her skills in family law. “I was looking for mentorship and a sense of balance in my professional and personal life,” Ingrid shared. Sound Legal Aid provided her with the perfect environment to learn, contribute, and build confidence as an attorney, all while giving back to the community.

Now, as she takes on the role of Board President, Ingrid is excited to lead Sound Legal Aid into a new chapter. “I’m thrilled to strengthen our presence in the community and leverage our identity as a law firm to increase outreach,” she said. One of her key goals is to expand Continuing Legal Education (CLE) opportunities, strengthen relationships with local non-profits with similar interests, and empower legal professionals to engage with Sound Legal Aid’s mission.

Ingrid’s time with Sound Legal Aid has been marked by countless meaningful experiences, particularly the collaborative moments spent with volunteers. “I’ll never forget huddling with teams, researching laws, and working together to ensure our clients had the best representation possible,” she recalled. These moments have been a testament to the dedication of Sound Legal Aid’s team and the profound impact of their services.

One of the most rewarding aspects of her work is witnessing the relief and gratitude of clients. “Sometimes, it’s the simplest acts—preparing clients for court, outlining talking points, or helping them stay on track during court—that make the biggest difference,” Ingrid explained. These efforts not only ease nerves but also empower individuals to communicate effectively in challenging situations.

For those considering volunteering, Ingrid has a message: don’t let inexperience hold you back. “Many people worry about not knowing enough about the law, but Sound Legal Aid provides incredible mentorship and support,” she said. Whether through shadowing or direct involvement, volunteers gain valuable experience while making a meaningful impact.

Ingrid is also passionate about emphasizing the critical role Sound Legal Aid plays in the community. “This service fills a much-needed gap in the legal system,” she said. “Without the support of our volunteers and donors, Sound Legal Aid wouldn't be able to provide meaningful access to justice and free legal services to underrepresented communities.” She believes this work is life-changing for those who need it most, and the community would greatly suffer if Sound Legal Aid weren’t here.

As Ingrid steps into this new role, she looks forward to celebrating the organization’s accomplishments at the upcoming annual breakfast on April 15, 2025. She encourages the community to join in supporting Sound Legal Aid’s mission. “By removing barriers and providing free legal aid, we combat homelessness, lift families during difficult times, and help stabilize our community members. Together, we can create stronger, healthier communities.”

With Zerpa stepping into this new role, Sound Legal Aid is poised to continue its impactful work and deepen its influence across the region.
