Volunteers are the heart of Sound Legal Aid. Since 1981, we’ve relied on dedicated individuals—both attorneys and non-attorneys—to provide civil legal advice and support to our clients. Whether you’re newly admitted to the bar, recently retired, a college student, or a community member eager to make a difference, we welcome volunteers of all skill levels.
If you're passionate about giving back, we’ll help you find a role that suits your interests and skills. Our organization offers mentorship, networking, training, and ongoing educational opportunities. Volunteer options are available in person, over the phone, or online, ensuring flexibility to fit your schedule.

Attorneys
As a volunteer attorney, you will help low income clients resolve their civil legal problems by providing them legal advice, information and, sometimes, direct representation.
If you aren't an expert, you will have a mentor. If you are well-versed in family law (about 80% of the clients), please volunteer to be a mentor.

Non-Attorneys
Clients go through an initial interview done by a non-attorney volunteer before they are seen by an attorney. This volunteer establishes income eligibility and gathers general information about the legal issue before presenting the case to an attorney.
