Older adults in Thurston County will soon have expanded access to housing-related legal support, thanks to a $10,000 grant awarded to Sound Legal Aid through SCAN Health Plan’s Aging in Place Services program. The grant will fund services between September 2025 and February 2026.

This investment comes at a critical time for many low-income residents age 55 and older who face housing instability, financial challenges, and barriers to legal assistance. Through the grant, Sound Legal Aid will provide individualized advocacy and connections to supportive services that promote safety and independence.

The initiative is expected to reach approximately 50 older adults, with priority given to those most at risk of eviction, displacement, or unsafe housing conditions. By combining legal services with education and referrals to resources such as housing navigation, food assistance, and mental health support, the program aims to strengthen stability and peace of mind for older residents across Thurston County.

Through SCAN Health Plan’s support, Sound Legal Aid is better positioned to ensure that older adults in the community can continue to live with dignity, security, and greater independence.
